The Faculty of Education has longstanding experience in educating professionals and is a leader in the provision of education in the field of information and technology studies. We offer a full-time Bachelor of Science in Information Management [BSc(IM)] programme, which is a UGC-funded programme. This programme, which builds on the strength and expertise in the information management area in the Faculty, targets the fastest growing sector of the modern economy, namely the information sector.
We have close connection with the professional bodies. The BSc(IM) programme is professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), UK. The accreditation assures that our programme provides excellent preparation for professional practice and a strong foundation for anybody entering the library, data, information, and knowledge sectors. Our students are welcome to join CILIP and also the Hong Kong Library Association (HKLA) as members to keep themselves up-to-date to the latest trend in the field.
The Faculty is a member of iSchools and we are the only institution in HK which is an iSchools member, along with other members such as University College London, University of California-Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
There are many industry experts participate in our programme as advisors, co-lecturers, and guest speakers. Influential organizations in Hong Kong are hosts for our internship programme. Students interested in further studies after graduation may be able to continue in the Faculty's Master of Science in Library and Information Management [MSc(LIM)] programme or Master of Science in Technology, Design and Leadership for Learning [MSc(TDLL)] programme.

To be eligible^ for admissions to BSc(IM) in 2026-27, you should be
^Applicants who have once enrolled in a bachelor's degree / higher degree programme at a tertiary institution and completed one or more year(s) of studies, irrespective of whether the qualifications have been awarded, should apply for first year places.
Applicants are strongly recommended to submit IELTS/TOEFL results. Good performance in either of these tests would be a great advantage. Additionally, please provide a summary of up to two A4 pages highlighting your non-academic extra-curricular activities, personal achievements, work experience, and other relevant information supporting your application. Details about volunteer work, club memberships, sports participation, leadership roles, and diverse experiences across Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, and overseas, etc. in recent years can be included.
Successful applicants shall be admitted directly to Year 3 of this four-year programme (i.e. there are no Year 1 or Year 2 admissions to this programme).
- a local final year student who will successfully complete a recognised full-time Associate Degree (AD) or Higher Diploma (HD) programme of at least two years in duration from a community college in Hong Kong by August 2026. Candidates are strongly recommended to take either the IELTS or the TOEFL, and good performance in one of these tests would be a great advantage, OR
- a local graduate of a recognised full-time Associate Degree (AD) or Higher Diploma (HD) programme of at least two years in duration from a community college in Hong Kong and is not currently enrolling in any bachelor's degree. Candidates are strongly recommended to take either the IELTS or the TOEFL, and good performance in one of these tests would be a great advantage.
