Decision Sciences and Supply Chain Management are a community of scholars dedicated to producing high impact research. Their interests are reflected in the diverse mix of research topics they pursue. These research interests include, but are not limited to: production and operations management, supply chain management, healthcare operations, behavioral operations, lean philosophy, predictive analytics, time series analysis and forecasting, quantile regression, semi-parametric regression, biostatistics. The finance Ph.D. program is small and the training is intensive. We admit between two and four new students every other year. Successful students develop close working relationships with the KU finance faculty, both in the classroom and on co-authored research. Many of our students publish their first research study before finishing the program, and most students accept jobs at universities rated “high” or “very high” in research activity by the Carnegie Foundation. The Ph.D. Program in Human Resources Management (HRM) prepares students for success in research universities as faculty members specializing in human resources. The field of human resources is dedicated to a better understanding of how work organizations can perform more effectively by better management of their people. Many HRM scholars specialize or focus on more micro-level work, such as researching the impact of specific HR practices (e.g., selection or training techniques) on individual-level measures of satisfaction or performance. Alternatively, macro-level HR (i.e., “strategic HRM”) scholars study the effects of systems of HR policies and practices on organizational-level outcomes. The marketing department has a young and dynamic faculty, dedicated to producing high quality research that is published in top-tier marketing and interdisciplinary journals. Faculty members closely supervise doctoral students. Each student is assigned an academic advisor, who guides the student in course selection and other general academic requirements. It is important to note that the academic advisor may or may not be the chair of the student’s doctoral dissertation committee. The student selects the dissertation chair based on the match between the dissertation topic and the interest and expertise of the faculty member in that topic. The Ph.D. Program in Organizational Behavior (OB) prepares students for success in research universities as faculty members specializing in organizational behavior. The field of OB seeks to develop knowledge of how individuals and groups think, feel, and behave in organizational settings and to apply that knowledge to foster effective management of individuals in work settings. Its origins include psychology, sociology, and anthropology. Research in the field is methodologically rigorous and is grounded in the social sciences. The Ph.D. Program in Strategic Management prepares students for success in research universities as faculty members specializing in Strategic Management. Research in Strategic Management concerns how firms and organizations gain competitive advantage over rival firms or organizations.
