The Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery (qualification required for the profession of midwife) belongs to the Class of Degrees in Technical Healthcare Professions, has a duration of three years and involves the acquisition of 180 university study credits (CFUs) leading to the award of the degree. Admission to the course of study occurs via a scheduled national process, with a ranking produced on the basis of a national admission test. The admission test checks that applicants possess the scientific knowledge required for the first year of the course. The official language of the course is Italian. At the end of the course, the qualification of Degree in Midwifery (qualification required for the profession of midwife) is issued. The qualification enables access to first-level postgraduate programmes, Master’s Degree courses and other classes launched at the University of Milano-Bicocca or at other universities in accordance with the procedures set out in their respective regulations. The Degree course intends to provide solid cultural and methodological preparation in the core disciplines relevant to the professional skills required to be a midwife. Students also development knowledge in the fields of human sciences, IT and statistics, ethics and deontology and English. A particular emphasis is placed in the study of specific content regarding neonatal obstetrical and gynaecological sciences, knowledge of which will allow graduates to take ownership over and act with professional autonomy as regards the skills set out in the professional profile for midwifery. The course of study is recognised as a Friend of Breastfeeding course (CdLAA) by UNICEF.
