This course offers a rigorous programme of study covering the medieval literature of England and Scotland from the Anglo-Saxon period to the early Renaissance. This is an intensive programme culminating in a 15,000-word dissertation. Students study the full range of medieval literature in English, circa 800-1500. Compulsory modules in Old English and Middle English are combined with specialist compulsory training in paleography, codicology and medieval literary theory to ensure that students emerge fully equipped to carry out further research in any area of mediaeval English literature, whether Old or Middle, English or Scottish.
