B.Sc.
(Honours) in Mathematics is a three-year undergraduate programme that
comprises of 6 semesters containing a
systematic and multidisciplinary curriculum. During this course students have
to complete different courses of total 164 credit units that help them to
develop interpretive analytical and logical skills required to endeavour in
the field of Mathematics. This program has some core courses and elective
courses in the field of Mathematics which train students to handle concrete
& abstract problems and solve them using their critical observations. The
coursework of the programme includes Calculus, Matrix algebra, Graph Theory,
Algebra, Vector Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Complex Analysis, Mathematical
Analysis, and Differential Equations, among many others. Apart from
Mathematics, the curriculum includes Allied courses, Foreign Business
Language course (University Courses), Behavioural Course, Communication Skill
(University Courses) and Outdoor Activity based course to equip the students
with technical skills, soft skills so that they can excel in every field and
industry. This program also includes NTCC courses (Non-Teaching Credit
Courses) in semesters 3, 5 and 6 with credit units 1, 3 and 6, respectively.
In semester 3, the NTCC course is taught by internal supervisors (only
faculties of the department), and in semester 5, the NTCC course is called
summer internship, which is conducted at some external universities or
institutes under the guidance of some supervisors of the respective
institutes, and a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics of AUK is
also involved in this internship. However, in semester 6, the NTCC project of
credit unit 6 is entirely led by an internal supervisor. The NTCC projects
throughout the program help students to explore the broader spectrum of
mathematics and give them an insight into research in the field of
mathematics. The course curriculum is also aligned with the syllabus of
higher education entrance exams like JAM, GATE, NET, etc. so that after
graduating students could join PG course and can be excellent researcher in
the field. B.Sc.(Honours) in Mathematics is enabling students to create a
positive attitude towards Mathematics as an exciting and valuable subject of
study. B.Sc.(Honours) in Mathematics promotes logical thinking, numeracy,
dexterity and communication skills to enhance employability. Students will be
able to formulate and apply first-hand knowledge in advanced applications in
various disciplines of mathematics and gain research experience in advance.
In addition, students will be able to communicate and analyse the results of
theoretical calculations and laboratory experiments in a clear and concise
manner that takes into account scientific conventions. This programme will
help them understand professional and ethical responsibilities that impact
their studies and careers. The program acquires the ability to understand and
analyse mathematical problems and develop the ability to critically consider
abstract concepts of mathematics.
