Under
NEP, undergraduate degree will be either 3- or 4-year duration, with multiple
exit options within this period, with appropriate certifications, e.g., a UG
certificate after completing 1 year (2 semester) in Mathematics including
vocational and professional areas, or a UG diploma after 2 years (4
semesters) of study, or a Bachelor’s degree after a 3-year (6 semesters)
programme. The 4-year multidisciplinary Bachelor's programme, however, shall
be the preferred option since it allows the opportunity to experience the
full range of all-inclusive and multidisciplinary education in addition to a
focus on the chosen major and minors as per the choices of the student. After
a 4-year (8 semesters) program of study, B.Sc Mathematics(Honours) or B.Sc
Mathematics (Honours with research) degree can be earned. For 4 year degree
program minimum 160 credit units are required which includes 24 credit units
in each of Semester I and II, 22 credit units in each of Semester III, IV
& V and 21 credit units in Semester VI respectively. In semester VII and
VIII two types of credit unit distribution; 22 credit unit in each of
Semester VII & VII to get the degree B.Sc Mathematics (Honours) and 24
credit units in each of Semester VII and VIII to earn B.Sc Mathematics
(honours with Research). The framework of the program aims at making the
academic programs student-oriented, flexible, interdisciplinary, and relevant
to the times. The students will have ample freedom to select the electives
that suit their interests, aptitude, and needs. The students are provided
abundant opportunities during the program of study to accumulate credits by
opting for Major Courses, Minor Courses, Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC),
Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), and
Value-Added Courses (VAC) under this program. The system aims to strengthen
the academic potential of students by offering flexibility in the choice of
courses that go beyond the scope of the respective subjects. During their
studies, students are offered opportunities for internships in local
industry, companies, etc., as well as research placements with faculty and
researchers from their own or other research institutions, so that students
can actively engage with the practical side of their learning and, as a
by-product, further enhance their employability. A values-based education that includes the
development of humanistic, ethical, constitutional and universal human values
such as truth, righteous behaviour, peace, love, non-violence, scientific
thinking, civic values and the art of living
Programme Outcomes (POs)
• Enabling students to create a positive attitude towards Mathematics as an
exciting and valuable subject of study.
• Moreover, students become skill full to characterise problems, formulate
a hypothesis, evaluate and validate outcomes, and draw reasonable conclusions
thereof.
• This programme promotes logical thinking, numeracy, dexterity and communication
skills to enhance employability. Students will be able to formulate and apply
first-hand knowledge in advanced applications in various disciplines of
mathematics and gain research experience in advance.
• In addition, students will be able to communicate and analyse the results
of theoretical calculations and laboratory experiments in a clear and concise
manner that takes into account scientific conventions.
• This programme will help them understand professional and ethical
responsibilities that impact their studies and careers.
• This program will motivate for research studies in Mathematics and
related fields with real life applications
• Acquire the ability to understand and analyse mathematical problems and
develop the ability to critically consider abstract concepts of mathematics.
• The effective scientific and technical communication in both oral and
written forms are developed among the students which will motivate them to go
for higher education and students can thing of research and development as a
carrier option.
