Pharmacokinetics is a key aspect of drug safety and investigates the fate of a drug in the body, and how the substance is absorbed, distributed, metabolised and eliminated. On this course, students will develop their skills and knowledge in the application of pharmacokinetics to the design and optimization of new therapeutics. This course emphasizes on describing mechanistic approaches to assessing and predicting the pharmacokinetics of drugs throughout the drug development process. Students will encounter a broad range of experiences in the application of pharmacokinetics from early discovery and development, through to market authorization and clinical applications. This course will prepare students for pursuing careers within the pharmaceutical industry in particular within drug metabolism pharmacokinetics (DMPK) departments, whilst also providing some training to support clinical transition to apply pharmacokinetic principles in clinical trials or clinical treatment optimisation through virtual clinical trial simulations.
