The curriculum is patient-centred. Students will develop the core competencies in medicine, gain key teamwork skills and understand the workings of the internationally admired NHS (National Health Service). It has been designed to equip students with the clinical expertise and confidence needed to embark on their first post after graduation as a Foundation doctor. Each students will be allocated a Personal Tutor who can offer advice on study-related or personal issues. Students will be assessed on written/computer exams, in-course work, clinical exams (OSCEs), and professionalism. Currently, upon successful completion of the MBChB course all of Aston students (UK and international fee paying) will have equal opportunity to apply for the UK Foundation Programme. This is a two year integrated training programme for newly qualified Foundation doctors who are eligible for provisional registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
