The Department of Mathematics was established in July 2010 under the name of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics. In 2012, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics was divided into two separate departments – the Department of Applied Mathematics and the Department of Applied Statistics. The Department of Applied Mathematics was renamed as the Department of Mathematics in 2017.

Vision

The Department of Mathematics aspires to become a centre of excellence in Mathematics through high-quality research and teaching. The department strives to earn national and international recognition for its expertise in the field of research and teaching of mathematics and to build a community that champions and promotes a mathematician in everyone.

Mission: The mission of the department is
  • To provide an environment where students can learn and become competent users of mathematics and understand the use of mathematics in other disciplines.
  • To develop analytical and logical thinking among students and promote mathematical thoughts.
  • To offer programs in mathematics that prepare students for further education, as well as employment in business, industry or government institutions and for further higher studies.
  • To provide learning and research opportunities in the areas of pure and applied mathematics. Some of the main areas of research are listed below:
  • Algebra
  • Complex Analysis
  • Cryptography
  • Distribution Theory
  • Fluid Mechanics and Nanofluids
  • Integral Transforms
  • Mathematical Modelling
  • Number Theory
  • Numerical Methods
  • Wavelet Analysis.
  • Programs: The department offers the following two programs
  • M.Sc. in Mathematics
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics
  • Faculty:

    The department has seven faculty members who are highly dedicated to their profession. The faculty members are well-qualified and have vast teaching and research experience, and are experts in different areas of mathematics. They also have a good number of national and international research publications. Some Faculty members have completed their UGC-sponsored research projects.
