In French and Francophone Studies, students pursue their interests in French language, as well as in French and Francophone literature, film, and culture while learning to express themselves clearly and effectively when they speak and write. Students develop strong analytical and interpretive skills while discovering the historical depth and geographical breadth of literary and cultural expression in French, enhancing their sensitivity to cultural difference, and deepening their understanding of the linguistic, cultural, and political complexities of the French-speaking world in Europe, North America, Africa, and the Caribbean. Learning Goals In this era of increasing globalization, students must have strong skills in the analysis and interpretation of language and culture. We teach French language and French and Francophone culture at all levels, which provides students with a strong foundation as they pursue studies of the literatures and cultures of French-speaking countries throughout the world.
