The curriculum covers studies on the Āgama Sūtras and fundamental issues in Mahāyāna Buddhism, helping students delve deeply into classical Buddhist thought. At the same time, courses such as Buddhist Psychological Healing and Buddhist Social Issues combine theory with modern applications, enabling students to understand and respond to contemporary challenges in Buddhist studies.
The program includes modern language courses in English and Japanese, as well as classical language courses in Tibetan and Sanskrit. This allows students to engage with Buddhist texts in different languages, broadening their global perspective and equipping them for international Buddhist research and exchange.
The monastic practice courses incorporate a communal lifestyle of living, eating, and studying together. Through maintaining dormitory environments, rotating responsibilities for cooking and meal service, students develop teamwork and a sense of responsibility. Additionally, daily morning and evening chanting sessions, along with meditation or recitation retreats during summer and winter breaks, allow students to experience a disciplined lifestyle and deepen their practice in Buddhist traditions.
Yes, you can opt out. However, this will make you ineligible for the Buddhist Studies Elite Scholarship.
