Architecture is an artificial environment created by humans in response to the natural environment. The imagination of architecture has evolved from simply providing shelter from the wind and rain in the early days to gradually establishing the three principles of practicality, durability, and art, and then emphasizing the publicity, culture, and social influence that architecture should have in the contemporary era. Today, architects are more focused on establishing a sustainable environment, whether it is building materials, construction methods, environmental creation or even local creation, rethinking the harmonious co-construction relationship between architecture and the regional environment. This program is the only department in Yilan, Hualien and Taitung counties that trains professional architectural design talents. In line with the international trend of sustainable architectural development, the curriculum emphasizes both architectural design majors and light construction practices to cultivate students' cross-domain integrated design capabilities in sustainable environmental planning, local space revitalization, old house preservation and regeneration, and interior space design. This program is based in Yilan County, which has a large number of outstanding architectural environment design professionals, as well as high-quality architectural environment spaces for field study. The local government adheres to the concepts of environmental sustainability and cultural assets, and community groups actively participate in the creation of local environmental spaces. These are all powerful resources that students in this bachelor's degree program can use and cooperate with. This program also enhances students’ practical skills and employability in the workplace through visits to outstanding buildings, collaborative teaching with industry teachers, field practice exercises, case study learning, workplace lectures, and summer workplace internships.
