Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) is a public higher education and research institution that brings together five top-tier French Schools in science and engineering: École Polytechnique, ENSTA Paris, ENSAE Paris, Télécom Paris and Télécom SudParis. Institut Polytechnique de Paris is conducting cutting-edge disciplinary and interdisciplinary research contributing to the development of society and global challenges. The research programs established by the 10 disciplinary departments identify key fields and develop transdisciplinary research projects in partnership with the industry.


Research focuses on 12 research areas : Environment & Climate, Energy Transition, Artificial Intelligence and Data science, Networks and the Internet of Things, Mathematics and Digital Simulation, Cybersecurity, Defence, Geopolitics and Strategy, Innovative Materials and Quantum Technologies, Lasers and Plasma Science, Robotics, Bioengineering. To this end, Institut Polytechnique de Paris has set up 6 major interdisciplinary centers in areas such as Energy and Climate Change, AI & Data, Defence and Security, Health, Materials, Art, etc.


Located on the Plateau de Saclay,  the campus of Institut Polytechnique de Paris offers students, faculty members and staff top-notch facilities to pursue their studies and activities in a lively and stimulating environment. Set in the heart of one of the top eight innovation hubs worldwide, the campus benefits from the dynamism created by private and public players based within the cluster. Located on the suburbs of Paris city, the campus is easily accessible by public transportation, allowing students and faculty members to enjoy the rich cultural and economical life of the French capital city.

  • Master’s programs

Institut Polytechnique de Paris offers Master programs in fundamental and applied sciences in a wide range of fields with an international focus. Taught by leading academics and renowned experts, they prepare graduates to engineer industrial innovations.

14 fields of study:


    Entry requirements:
    Master’s are open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in sciences, engineering or economics and social sciences.

    Tuition fees for a master’s program ranges from €243 per year to €6,243 per year (except for the Nuclear Energy Master which fees are specific), depending on the program itself and the student’s nationality.

    • PhD Track (Integrated Master and PhD Program)


    PhD Track
    is a five-year integrated Master and PhD Programs aimed at high-potential undergraduate students who know from Master’s level that they wish to commit to a scientific PhD. The PhD Track offers top students a selective and personalized curriculum with training periods at laboratories and opportunity to focus gradually on their thesis subject. A renowned professor oversees each student’s work.


    Entry requirements:
    PhD Tracks are open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in sciences, engineering, economics or social sciences.

    Fees: For PhD-Tracks, the 2-year master fees are waived. Fees only amount to €243 per year.  Merit-based scholarships can be granted to the best students.

    • PhD programs


    Institut Polytechnique de Paris offers three-year PhD programs in a variety of disciplinary fields. The doctoral research is based on 30 laboratories and takes place in a high-quality scientific environment. PhD students are offered the opportunity to conduct their PhD with high-tech companies and multinational groups with renowned R&D departments or with major national and international research institutes (CNRS, INRIA, CEA, ONERA...).


    Entry requirements:
    PhD applicants are required to have completed a master’s degree in the field of their thesis subject.

    Registration fees are €380 per year. The host laboratory will provide a research fellowship.

    • Engineering programs (Cycles Ingenieurs)

    Each School at Institut Polytechnique de Paris has its own 3-year (or 4-year) Engineering program. A highly selective entrance examination is open to international students who have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies.

    It proposes a customizable multidisciplinary education offering a broad scientific and technical knowledge in Institut Polytechnique de Paris’ fields of excellence. The programs allow strong interactions with companies and laboratories and include solid competences in management, law, economics and social sciences.

    Entry requirement: Engineering programs are open to students who have completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate degree in science (mathematics, statistics, applied mathematics, physics, computer sciences) or engineering.

    Fees for international students vary between €1,850 per year to €12,600 per year depending on the School and whether the student is European or not. International students admitted in the frame of international cooperation agreements may benefit from partial or total exemptions of their Engineering program tuition fees.

    There are a number of scholarships available at Institut Polytechnique de Paris including from the French Government or your country of origin. The Institut Polytechnique de Paris awards merit-based excellence scholarships for students enrolled in PhD tracks. Engineering students may as well benefit from grants or loans from foundations or alumni associations. Host laboratories will provide PhD students with research fellowships.

    University information

    Admission criteria are based on the applicants’ academic background, language skills, statement of purpose and reference letters.

    Applicants for the Engineering program also must take written and oral exams and PhD Track applicants are required to attend an interview. 

    - PhD Track admission

    For the academic year 2024/2025, the application session for the PhD Track program is from Thursday 5th of October 2023 until Tuesday 12th of January, 2024.

    - Master's admission

    For applications through IP Paris platform :

    • 1st session:  From November 7th, 2023 to February 1st, 2024
    • 2nd session: From February 2nd, 2024 to April 18th, 2024
    • 3rd session* :  From April 19th, 2024 to May 30th, 2024
      * Please note that  some programs will not be open in the 3rd session

    - Engineering admission

    The application session for the Engineering programs is from March 2024 to Septembre 1st, 2024.

    - PhDs are on a yearlong rolling admissions base.

    Need-based and merit-based scholarships are awarded by the French government and other authorities to international students for Engineering programs. Institut Polytechnique de Paris awards merit-based excellence scholarships for students enrolled in PhD tracks. Host laboratories provide PhD students with fellowships.
