About Institut Polytechnique de Paris

The Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) is a public, research-based institution of higher education uniting six renowned and selective French graduate schools of science and engineering: École Polytechnique, ENSTA, École nationale des ponts et chaussées (ENPC), ENSAE Paris, Télécom Paris and Télécom SudParis. Established in May 2019, Institut Polytechnique de Paris capitalizes on the 200 years of expertise in science and technology of its 6 founding Schools.


IP Paris welcomes around 10,000 students with 41% of international students and 2,100 faculty members. With a very selective recruitment process and a high-quality education, IP Paris is ranked 46th worldwide and 2nd in France in the QS World University Rankings 2025.

Institut Polytechnique de Paris is conducting cutting-edge disciplinary and interdisciplinary research contributing to the development of society and global challenges. The research programs established by the 10 disciplinary departments identify key fields and develop transdisciplinary research projects in partnership with the industry.


Research focuses on 12 research areas : Environment & Climate, Energy Transition, Artificial Intelligence and Data science, Networks and the Internet of Things, Mathematics and Digital Simulation, Cybersecurity, Defence, Geopolitics and Strategy, Innovative Materials and Quantum Technologies, Lasers and Plasma Science, Robotics, Bioengineering. To this end, Institut Polytechnique de Paris has set up 6 major interdisciplinary centers in areas such as Energy and Climate Change, AI & Data, Defence and Security, Health, Materials, Art, etc.


Located on the Plateau de Saclay,  the campus of Institut Polytechnique de Paris offers students, faculty members and staff top-notch facilities to pursue their studies and activities in a lively and stimulating environment. Set in the heart of one of the top eight innovation hubs worldwide, the campus benefits from the dynamism created by private and public players based within the cluster. Located on the suburbs of Paris city, the campus is easily accessible by public transportation, allowing students and faculty members to enjoy the rich cultural and economical life of the French capital city.

University information

Admission criteria are based on the applicants’ academic background, language skills, statement of purpose and reference letters.

Applicants for the Engineering program also must take written and oral exams and PhD Track applicants are required to attend an interview.

Need-based and merit-based scholarships are awarded by the French government and other authorities to international students for Engineering programs. Institut Polytechnique de Paris awards merit-based excellence scholarships for students enrolled in PhD tracks. Host laboratories provide PhD students with fellowships.
