The Biomedical Engineering master’s program is a two-year research-oriented program that follows a highly interdisciplinary pedagogical approach. The curriculum consists of fundamental and advanced courses in various subdisciplines of biomedical engineering as well as cross-disciplinary courses in artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, statistics, and ethics.
Because students in the program come from different disciplines including engineering, physics, and computer science, the first year of the program provides core courses common to all students. The second year constitutes specialization in two of four tracks: Biomechanics and Biophysics; Imaging and Image-Based Modeling; Biomaterials and Biodevices, and Biomedical Data Science and Applications. In the second year, a separate Biomechanics for Clinicians track is also available to medical doctors interested in specializing in biomechanics.
The Biomedical Engineering program prepares students for either academic research or for industrial research, development, and innovation positions in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device sectors. Key partners include Inria and various local hospitals. This program has strong links to the Bioengineering and Quantitative Life Sciences PhD Track as well as the Engineering for Health (E4H) Interdisciplinary Center.
