JBS offers both full-time and part-time Ph.D. programs in management, focusing on interdisciplinary and contemporary topics in areas such as marketing, finance, human resources, operations, economics, international business, information systems, and strategic management. Ph.D. scholars must complete a required coursework and conduct original research in their chosen field. The Ph.D. degree is awarded in recognition of academic excellence, independent research, creative inquiry, and the application of knowledge to solve business and management problems. Full-time research scholars receive a monthly stipend to support their research work.

Admission to the Ph.D. program can be gained by qualifying exams such as NET, SLET, UGC, CSIR (JRF), or the university’s own admission test. Preference is given to candidates opting for full-time research, although a limited number of part-time candidates are also admitted.

Once admitted, each Ph.D. student is assigned a guide from the school, as well as two members of the Doctoral Progress Monitoring and Advisory Committee (DPMAC). The program is rigorous, with scholars required to complete the stipulated coursework and present their research progress every six months to the DPMAC in a Review Seminar. Scholars must undertake in-depth research under the guidance of their supervisor on a specific topic for a minimum duration, as outlined in the Ph.D. Program Ordinance.

To progress in the program, scholars must secure at least a B+ grade in the following compulsory courses, which are taught in a trimester mode: Advanced Research Methodology, Literature Survey and Seminar, Research and Publication Ethics, Quantitative Techniques and Software Applications, and Survey Development and Analysis. Additionally, the DPMAC may recommend elective courses as necessary. This structure ensures that scholars are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to their field of study.
