This course allows you to study food analysis, sensory analysis, food microbiology related to food safety, spoilage and fermentation, and product development and quality control. The structure of the course gives you a core of essential knowledge and skills for your career. You can choose to emphasise laboratory-based subjects such as food microbiology and food analysis or areas such as quality assurance or food production and development including sensory analysis. The subjects in the course develops your knowledge of food manufacturing and processing, analysis and testing packaging, storage, distribution, legal-aspects, sustainability and food security. Staff are active within the Institute of Food Science and Technology and regularly involved with the food industry as expert consultants. Our food business development colleagues are also involved in teaching and work closely with us. The course includes opportunities for an industry work placement.
