Our Clinical Linguistics and Evidence Based Practice course is for graduates in:
- speech and language therapy
- clinical linguistics
- psychology
- related disciplines with an interest in speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders
This research masters is ideal preparation for a PhD under the ESRC-funded (masters plus PhD) route or for students with NIHR pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) funding.
The course will cover:
- research methods in the discipline (appropriate to your planned dissertation project and future research)
- advanced scholarship and practice (in areas within that discipline as well as an awareness of current research)
- design and implementation of an original investigation (this includes statistical and/or qualitative analyses and interpretation of findings)
- development of communication skills for sharing findings of clinical investigation with professional audiences (through a conference presentation and manuscript for submission to a scientific journal)

This course is usually only available to students applying for a studentship from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The course forms part of the 1+3 (Master's plus PhD) scheme under the Northern Ireland and North East Doctoral Training Partnership (NINE-DTP). To start the course your application for ESRC funding must be successful.
If you are a speech and language therapist applying for a NIHR Integrated Clinical and Practitioner Academic (ICA) Programme Pre-doctoral Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellowship (PCAF) award, please get in touch to discuss relevant available modules and awards. To start the course your application for NIHR funding must be successful.
