Civil Engineering is a discipline that deals with the planning, design, construction, assessment, monitoring, maintenance and management of structures and infrastructures, including buildings, bridges, tunnels, dams, sewerage systems, pipelines, roads, railways, harbours, airports, and other engineering works that play a fundamental role for the economic growth and sustainable development of the modern society and resilient communities.


The Bachelor programme (BSc) in Civil Engineering aims at providing future professionals with sound theoretical principles of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science, together with the fundamentals of the core subjects of Civil Engineering (including surveying, mechanics of fluids, solids, soils and structures, hydraulic engineering works, transportation infrastructures).


Graduates can operate as self-employed professionals, or as employees in public administration or private companies dealing with problems of civil, building and environmental engineering involving soils, structures, transports, hydraulics, civil protection and surveying. They can act as designers or managers.

Courses taught in Italian   If you want to enrol in a course taught in Italian, you have to prove: 
proficiency in the Italian language, prior to enrolment.
You can fulfil the language requirement, if you:
are a citizen of either Italy or the Republic of San Marino or the Swiss Canton of Ticino; the information will be verified through the document of identification you uploaded to Online Services; or have a qualification, at least upper secondary school level, obtained in Italian; the Politecnico will verify the information with the school that awarded you the degree; or have an appropriate B2 level certification of proficiency in the Italian language issued by the CLIQ (Certificazione Lingua Italiana di Qualità). In this case, please upload the certification you have in the test registration and enrolment application. Proficiency in English is not an entry requirement, but it is necessary to continue and complete your Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) programme. If you do not provide evidence of proficiency in English, you will be assigned the OFA ENG (additional educational obligations for English), which entails certain career limitations. 
Courses taught in English 
In order to be admitted to Bachelor of Science programmes held in English, you must demonstrate: 
proficiency in English prior to enrolment. You can fulfil the language requirement, if you:
are a citizen of a country where the official language is English. This information will be verified by the document of identification you uploaded to Online Services; or have a qualification, at least upper secondary school level, obtained in English. The Politecnico will verify the information with the school that awarded you the qualification; have an appropriate certification of English language proficiency as specified on the Web page: https://www.polimi.it/en/students/language-requirements In this case, please upload the certification you have in the test registration and enrolment application. Proficiency in Italian is not an entry requirement, but you will need to obtain a B2 level in Italian before completing your Bachelor of Science programme. You can demonstrate proficiency in the Italian language if you: 
take a TOL or TOLC-I with a score of at least 30/100; are a citizen of either Italy or the Republic of San Marino or the Swiss Canton of Ticino; have a qualification, at least upper secondary school level, obtained in Italian.  If you do not demonstrate proficiency in Italian, you will be assigned the OFA (additional educational obligation) for Italian.
