SEGi University achieved a significant milestone when we became the first and only education institution to be awarded the QS 5 Stars Rating for Special Criteria: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). This recognition is among the eight evaluations for which SEGi have attained the overall QS 5 Stars Plus Rating in the QS World University Rankings 2022, published on 2 November 2021.
The QS Stars rating system evaluates universities across a broad spectrum of important performance indicators, which are set against pre-established international standards, covering a wider range of criteria than any other world-ranking application.

Medical Sciences Phase (Years 1 & 2): The journey commences with the Medical Sciences Phase, where students embark on a deep exploration of the human body, studying human anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, and immunology. This foundational knowledge is paramount as it forms the bedrock upon which clinical understanding is built. As the programme progresses, it seamlessly integrates behavioural sciences, biostatistics, medical ethics, and an introduction to community medicine. Clinical Phase (Years 3 to 5): The Clinical Phase marks the transition from theoretical studies to hands-on clinical training. Starting with the Junior Clerkship, students delve into the realms of internal medicine, surgery, and basic life support, applying their theoretical knowledge to real-life situations. As they advance through Specialty Clerkships I and II, they are immersed in paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, psychiatry, and other key medical fields. The climax of this phase is the Senior Clerkship, where the focus shifts to critical care and elective specialties. This phase is crucial as it prepares students for their future specialisations, honing their skills to an exceptional level of proficiency.

The curriculum for the 5-year MBBS programme is carried out in two phases: Medical Sciences (Year 1-2), and Clinical (Year 3-5). This combination of patient-centred, science-driven, team-based learning experience offers both early and extensive exposure from the beginning of the studies.
SEGi MBBS students have exclusive access to incorporate their knowledge into practice in an actual healthcare setting at the SEGi Sibu Clinical Campus in the final three years of the programme. Since early 2014, SEGi has been privileged to be the one and only institution to establish clinical teachings at Sibu Hospital, the 2nd largest hospital in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Through this partnership, students have unlimited opportunities to discover various medical disciplines including the promotion, prevention, therapeutic, and rehabilitative medicine, as well as develop their leadership skills to become the doctors of tomorrow.
