The postgraduate course in Palliative Care is presented as a new option in the area of ​​medical specialties, its work is carried out in different conditions from those of the rest of the specialties, since it implies direct and constant contact with people with limited life expectancy, it seeks to care instead of healing and is located in diverse environments where it is closely related to the community, for all this the specialist must have both scientific capacity and very particular personal qualities that allow him to integrate interdisciplinary palliative care teams.


The specialist must acquire expertise in three fundamental axes: the physical one, where symptom control stands out with an emphasis on pain management; the psycho-socio-spiritual axis, where the application of communication tools stands out; and self-care both on a personal and team level, all immersed in an ethical and human vision.

Admission Requirements

• Copy of the citizenship card and ballot paper for national students and, for foreign applicants, a copy of the identity card or passport. • Be a professional in the field of specific knowledge of health with a third-level degree registered in the National Information System of Higher Education of Ecuador (SNIESE). • Have passed the CACES professional qualification exam (the latter for graduates from 2014). • Have a professional title registered with the health authority. • Proficiency in the use of the English language, at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. • Availability of time for exclusive dedication due to the fact that according to number 15 of the Technical Standard for Teaching Assistance Units (UAD) they must complete 80 hours of training per week.
