The objectives of the mechanical engineering program are to educate engineers who: have a sound background in the fundamentals of engineering, have the abilities and knowledge expected by industry, are prepared for entry-level jobs in mechanical engineering, are prepared for graduate work in mechanical engineering. Students who qualify for graduation in the Mechanical engineering program will have demonstrated the following: an ability to apply the knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering, an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret data, an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturing ability, and sustainability, an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams, an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems, an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities, an ability to communicate effectively, the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context, recognition of the need for, and ability to engage in lifelong learning, knowledge of contemporary issues,an ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
