The Doctorate is based on the study of genetic diseases, with specific focus on hereditary, osteo metabolic and connective tissue's diseases but also on the metabolism defects, autoinflammatory and autoimmune diseases, solid and hematological diseases and processes of cell degeneration, inflammation and regeneration. Thanks to the collaboration between the 3 Tuscany universities and the IFC-CNR, students obtain a multi-layered formation: from the definition of molecular basis to the development and validation of therapeutic approaches based on predictive and personalized medicine. Advanced molecular techniques are useful to obtain a huge quantity of Big Data, essential for the understanding of pathogenetic mechanisms and their treatment with specific medicines. Using new methods like the IPS generation or the DNA editing, allow to study the pathogenesis in human cell models of rare neurological, neuro-developmental and neurodegenerative diseases and to test possible gene therapies based on gene editing.
