The BA in philanthropy program is a collaboration between the Department of Communication and the College of Business. The unique combination of communication competencies and business skills offered in the program prepares students to meet the growing demands of nonprofit and philanthropic management professionals.


The BA in philanthropy program is the first of its kind in Texas. Students are required to complete courses in the philanthropy major and acquire a minor or certificate in business philanthropy. Students are also expected to engage in supervised internship and other experiential learning activities. We expect our students to excel in the nonprofit and philanthropy sector through their demonstration of:


  • Oral and written communication
  • Grantwriting
  • Fundraising activities
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • Digital media literacy
  • Community engagement and outreach
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills

Career development opportunities are available through internships, client and service-learning projects, and public relations campaigns.
