The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers a broad range of programs with a focus on the general area of Environmental Geology. Research is carried out in the interpretation of geologic and hydrogeologic processes, the description and interpretation of modern and ancient geologic environments, the response of geologic and hydrogeologic systems to human interference, and many other topics. Our major areas are in hydrogeology, groundwater modelling and remediation, aqueous, organic and isotope geochemistry, isotope hydrology, economic geology, mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, engineering geology, geophysics, sedimentology and Quaternary geology.

Minimum requirements: (1) Students should have a Honours Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Earth Sciences, or equivalent (e.g. Geology, Geosciences), with no less than a 75% standing. Outstanding students in other fields will also be accepted, but will have to take extra courses to strengthen their background preparation; (2) Before applying to the program, students are strongly advised to establish contact with potential supervisors.
