The Department has 28 faculty members who are active in research.  Our research fields cover a broad range including econometrics, development, economic theory, environment and natural resources, health, industrial organization, international trade, labour economics, law and economics, macro and monetary economics, and public economics. Our faculty members publish in the very best economics journals and many have been awarded research grants, which provide research opportunities for our graduate students.  Programs for both undergraduate and graduate students emphasize the three E’s of Waterloo Economics: Education, Experience, Employment. Our students apply the theories they learn in class to real economic scenarios, and gain hands-on experience through our renowned co-op work option.

Minimum requirements: (1) An Honours bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a 75% average; (2) Students must have strong preparation in economics and in the mathematical tools needed to be successful in the program, including the following university-level courses: Advanced microeconomics, Advanced macroeconomics, Advanced econometrics, and Mathematical economics; as an equivalent two terms of calculus and one term of linear algebra; (3) A GRE score is not required but is recommended for all international students applying to the program. // Application materials: Transcript(s). // For further information on admission requirements please check with the University for entry.
