The School of Art at Illinois State University offers full tuition waivers and graduate assistantships for candidates in the MFA program. The School of Art has approximately twenty-five students working in a multi-disciplinary program within a large university setting. Students emphasize one studio discipline, and are encouraged to explore others, including video, digital, and web-based work. The Master of Fine Arts program in Sculpture and Expanded Media at Illinois State University invites students to explore and experiment with a broad range of methods and processes to create their work. Our program fosters an environment in which students may focus on conceptual development and visual expression with the confidence that they have access to the facilities and faculty to realize their ideas in whatever materials are most effective. Students in this program are engaged in the intersection of analog and digital technologies. They explore and hone their practice in the School of Art's well-stocked wood and metal fabrication shops, installation spaces, plaster lab and foundry, and the Digital Fabrication Lab which is outfitted for 3D printing, laser-cutting, and physical computing. Sculpture and Expanded Media's three full-time faculty represent diverse views, disciplines, and histories, and encourage students to extend their methods of working and critical practice. Additionally, the interdisciplinary nature of Illinois State University's MFA program promotes in-depth interaction with faculty across the College of Fine Arts in casual studio visits, formal independent studies, and group critiques with all disciplines.
