The department is running Master of Science in Geography with an intake capacity of 30 students and a Ph.D. program in which 50 students are currently enrolled. The main objectives of the department include 1) To impart quality education on geographical knowledge through classroom teaching and fieldwork 2) To equip students with employable skills in Surveying, GIS and natural resource management and 3) To become a centre of excellence in understanding the dynamic relationship between human and the environment. To achieve these aims, the Department is actively engaged in organizing seminars, conference, workshops, special lectures for enhancing the quality of education.  Faculty members received research grants from various funding agencies. The department has set up Geographical Information system (GIS) laboratory and, a Census Data Research Workstation is also located in the department.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Department has a GIS Lab, a Census Data workstation and a Department Library
Prospective students may apply through the CUET conducted by NTA
Prospective candidates may apply with a research synopsis. Shortlisted candidates may then be interviewed as part of the selection process. Prospective scholars may keep themselves updated with Mizoram University website where important notifications related to PhD admissions such as schedule, available seats etc. are updated from time to time.
To pursue Masters program, a student must posses BA/BSc in Geography. For PhD, the scholar must have cleared at least UGC NET (PhD).
