The
Centre for Disaster Management (CDM), under the School of Earth Sciences
& Natural Resources Management, began functioning in March 2021. It
currently operates under the Department of Geography & Resource
Management until full staffing is completed. The Centre was established to
address India’s high vulnerability to natural and human‑induced disasters and
to promote scientific, research‑based disaster management education.
A two‑year postgraduate programme designed to equip students with scientific knowledge, analytical skills, and practical tools for understanding, assessing, and managing disasters. The M.Sc. curriculum integrates foundational sciences with advanced disaster‑specific modules, including:
1) Climatic Hazard Management
2) Geophysical Hazard Management
3) Environmental Hazards
4) Disaster Management Mechanisms
5) Disaster Risk Reduction & Development Planning
6) Hydrology
7) Climatology
8) Geomorphology
9) Remote Sensing & GIS
10) Research ethics
This blend ensures students gain both theoretical grounding and applied skills relevant to contemporary disaster management challenges.
