The Doctoral Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision is comprised of 60 credits and is accredited by the Council for Accreditation for Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The program provides counseling professionals in intense preparation for providing counseling and supervision to other mental health professionals, and for teaching and research for the purposes of entering academia. Types of Employment: Graduates of the program have leadership positions in mental health agencies and school districts, and many are faculty members in counselor preparation programs, including such universities as Penn State, Minnesota, East Tennessee, California, Indiana, Slippery Rock, Westchester, Geneva, Waynesburg, Marywood, Westchester, etc. Masters' and doctoral counseling programs that are accredited by CACREP must hire faculty who have earned a doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. This has increased the marketability of graduates of CACREP accredited doctoral programs. Counseling psychology or clinical psychology graduates are generally not eligible to be hired to teach in CACREP accredited programs.
