The Ph.D. Special Education program prepares global leaders in research, scholarly inquiry, and professional careers in the field of special education. Our mission is to prepare skilled education professionals who will maximize the potential for achieving meaningful quality of life for individuals with disabilities. We are committed to the preparation of leaders distinguished not only by their academic and professional expertise, but also by their ethics and guided by consciences sensitive to the needs of global society. Key Features of Our Program: A global perspective. Learn American best practices and translate them to an international context. Students select an area of academic specialization from two concentrations: Autism/Behavior or Assessment/Learning. Whichever concentration you choose, upon graduation you will be prepared to assume leadership roles in higher education institutions, educational research and policy organizations, government offices, ministries of education, and international development organizations. Learn from global faculty with active international research agendas, including Africa, China, and Kazakhstan, as well as national and international leadership positions in the field. Faculty will work with students to promote publication and presentation of their research at regional and national conferences. Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty specializing in Autism/Behavior provides you with an understanding of the most current research in this area, preparing you to spearhead innovative work to address individual's needs across the spectrum. Field experiences give students opportunity to connect research and classroom learning with practice. Our campus's location in the heart of Pittsburgh, PA provides access to field experiences in urban, suburban and rural educational and community settings. Transfer credits may be accepted; some may be able to transfer their whole degree via advanced standing (case-by-case basis).
