The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) program at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) is a five-year professional degree program that masterfully bridges the gap between creative artistry and technical engineering. Launched in 2015, the program is built on an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework and is officially accredited by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), ensuring that graduates meet the highest professional standards for licensure. Spanning 189 credit hours, the curriculum centers on the "Design Studio" culture, where students spend a significant portion of their time in collaborative environments, evolving theoretical concepts into tangible, sustainable built forms. The department’s philosophy emphasizes intellectual inquiry, pushing students to explore advanced domains such as Green and Sustainable Architecture, Advanced Construction Technology, and even the integration of Robotics and Automation in the built environment. With access to specialized facilities like the Model Making Lab, Environmental Design Lab, and the Heritage Conservation Lab, students are trained to handle the complexities of contemporary urban challenges. By merging rigorous military discipline with a flexible, imaginative design process, MIST Architecture cultivates socially responsible architects who are equipped to innovate for both national needs and global climate-responsive futures.

To be eligible for admission to MIST, applicants from the Science Group must have passed their SSC or equivalent in 2022 or 2023 with a minimum GPA of 4.00, excluding the fourth subject . For the HSC or equivalent, candidates who passed in 2024 or 2025 must achieve a total grade point of at least 18 across Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English, with a minimum grade point of 4.0 in each of the first three subjects . GCE 'O' Level applicants from 2022 or 2023 require at least a 'B' grade in five subjects, including the four core sciences and English, while 'A' Level candidates from 2024 or 2025 need a minimum of three 'B' grades in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry . It is mandatory for GCE or equivalent applicants to submit attested hardcopies of their transcripts to the MIST Admission Office by 30 November 2025 for verification . Furthermore, those interested in the Biomedical Engineering program must have specifically studied Biology at the HSC or 'A' Level, obtaining at least an 'A minus' or a 'C' grade, respectively.
es! MIST recently achieved a major milestone by receiving non-conditional IAB (Institute of Architects Bangladesh) Accreditation valid from 2025 to 2030. This means your degree is recognized nationally and internationally, simplifying the process of becoming a licensed architect and joining the global community of professional practitioners.
The Design Studio is the physical and pedagogical core of the program, accounting for 82 credit hours. It is "technical" because it isn't just about drawing; it’s where you integrate structural engineering, thermal comfort (Environmental Design), and material science into a single cohesive building model. You spend your nights and days here, iterating designs through critiques from both faculty and esteemed external jurors.
MIST stays ahead of the curve by hosting lectures like "AI: Alien Intelligence or Artificial Intelligence?" The curriculum focuses on teaching students how to use AI and Parametric Design tools as co-creators. By mastering automation and robotics in building environments, you learn to use AI to optimize structural efficiency and energy use rather than being replaced by it.
Beyond the drawing board, you will dive into the Environmental Design Lab to simulate lighting and airflow, the Model Making Lab for physical prototyping, and the Computer Lab equipped with CAD, BIM, and VR tools. There is also a dedicated Heritage Conservation and Rebuilding Lab for those interested in the technical repair and preservation of historic structures.
