The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the Military Institute of Science and Technology is offered by its pioneer Civil Engineering Department, established in 1999. Starting with only 40 military students, the department has grown to accommodate 404 undergraduate students and became the first department of MIST to receive BAETE accreditation in 2008. Guided by the pillars of fundamentals, innovation, excellence and advancement, the program ensures quality and relevance in engineering education.
The program provides a positive learning environment where strong theoretical foundations are integrated with modern technological knowledge and practical skills. Emphasis is placed on engineering science and design so that students can analyze and solve real-world civil engineering problems under close guidance of experienced and approachable faculty members.
The curriculum covers major areas of civil engineering including structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental and construction engineering. Interactive learning and teamwork are strongly promoted to enhance students’ understanding, creativity and professional competence.
The department is supported by 33 faculty members, including seven PhD holders from home and abroad. Well-equipped laboratories facilitate material testing and construction quality control, offering students hands-on exposure to real engineering practices.
The department also contributes to national infrastructure through consultancy services, including projects such as the Mirpur Cantonment Master Plan, land reclamation works, hotel and bridge vetting, and structural assessments. Through academic excellence and professional engagement, the BSc in Civil Engineering program at MIST prepares graduates to serve the nation with technical skill, leadership and integrity.
