Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is a distinguished public research university in Sylhet, Bangladesh, established in 1986 and beginning academic activities on 13 February 1991. It pioneered the American-style credit and semester system and was the first in the country to introduce integrated honours degrees, reflecting its longstanding commitment to modern higher education. Over the years, SUST has grown from three departments with 205 students and 13 faculty to a comprehensive institution with 6 schools, 27 academic departments, 2 institutes, and a wide range of academic and professional offerings. The university serves approximately 8,000 students supported by about 600 faculty members, delivering undergraduate, graduate, and research programs across science, engineering, technology, social sciences, business, and related fields. SUST also offers professional programs, including a professional Master of Science in Data Science, structured to meet both academic and industry-oriented career goals. Its academic portfolio spans engineering disciplines (such as Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering), natural sciences (including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Forestry & Environmental Science), social sciences and humanities (including Economics, English, Sociology, Public Administration), and business administration, among others.
