About Turan-Astana University

  University “Turan-Astana” is one of the largest higher education institutions in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, and the surrounding region, operating since 1998. The University holds high positions in national rankings and provides training in educational programs in the humanities and economics, design, service and tourism, while also implementing the concept of an entrepreneurial university.

The University comprises two higher schools, with more than 3,000 students enrolled in 23 bachelor’s degree programs, 26 master’s degree programs, three doctoral programs, and an MBA program.

The University adopts a student-centered learning approach and upholds to the principles of academic integrity. Educational programs are aimed at developing both professional (hard skills) and universal (soft skills) competencies. Students are given the opportunity to acquire additional competencies through nine Minor programs. The development of the entrepreneurial university strategy has enabled students to gain additional competencies in entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurial focus of education is associated with project implementation through the Entrepreneurship Center and the “StartupUniver” business incubator.

Turan-Astana University has created conditions for high-quality education for all students, including those with special educational needs.

The University actively carries out academic exchange (mobility) of students with partner universities from various countries (China, Turkey, Poland, Russia, and others) and regions of Kazakhstan, including the Kazakhstan-American Free University (Ust-Kamenogorsk), M. Kh. Dulaty Taraz Regional University (Taraz), S. Toraighyrov University (Pavlodar), M. Utemissov West Kazakhstan University (Uralsk), and M. O. Auezov South Kazakhstan University (Shymkent), among others.

The University’s students are among the best in the country based on the results of national subject Olympiads in such educational programs as “Law” (1st place in 2023), “International Law” (1st place in 2024), and “Tourism” (1st place in 2025).

To provide educational services, the University has strong academic staff capacity, employing more than 200 faculty members, including 10 Doctors of Science, 55 Candidates of Science, 9 PhD holders, and 100 Master’s degree holders. The University employs 56 faculty members with honorary titles and awards, including members of international and national academies of sciences and recipients of the state award “Best University Teacher.”

The University actively participates in international and national grant programs and implements five initiative projects aimed at supporting scientific research.

To ensure effective operation, the University has implemented the AIS “Platon” system, which integrates a module for AI-generated text detection developed by the American company Originality. Turan-Astana University is among the first universities in Kazakhstan to introduce this technology into the educational process.

The University has a modern infrastructure and a comfortable learning environment. It includes two academic buildings, educational and research laboratories, creative workshops equipped with modern technology, a scientific library with a collection of contemporary literature, lecture halls, a computer park (more than 500 computers), a fitness room, a choreography hall, a sports hall equipped with a futsal field, two medical centers, and a student residence.

Turan-Astana University is an institution with extensive international cooperation. It collaborates with universities in the United Kingdom, Spain, China, the UAE, Mongolia, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, the Republic of Belarus, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan. The University is also a partner of leading international organisations. In 2025, the Huawei ICT Academy and Cisco Networking Academy laboratories were launched. Since 2023, both students and faculty have been active users of the Coursera educational platform.

At the international level, the University has been accredited by ACQUIN (Germany) for 22 educational programs, 17 of which received accreditation for a period of eight years. The University also successfully completed institutional accreditation by ACQUIN for a period of seven years, confirming that its educational programs meet international standards.

Turan-Astana University annually participates in national university rankings of Kazakhstan. According to the IQAA (NAOKO) Ranking of the Best Universities of Kazakhstan, the University demonstrated stable institutional development and was ranked among the Top 10 universities nationwide in 2025, achieving 5th place among humanities and economics universities. The University’s indicators in the general ranking and in the ranking of educational programs by the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken” show strong positive dynamics, with positions improving from 15th to 4th place in several programs.

Bachelor’s Degree (after secondary school): Unified National Testing (UNT) Certificate with a minimum score of 55 points for all educational programs, except for the following programs, which require a minimum of 75 points: • Law • Digital Law • International Law • Legal Regulation of the Economy Bachelor’s Degree (after college): • For state-funded (grant) programs: UNT Certificate with a minimum score of 25 points. • For tuition-based programs: passing an entrance examination. Bachelor’s Degree (second higher education): • Passing an entrance examination. Rector’s Grant: Available to applicants who meet all of the following requirements: • An UNT score of 100 points or higher; • Possession of the “Altyn Belgi” distinction; • Certificates and diplomas confirming prize-winning places. The Rector’s Grant is funded from the university’s own resources. Last year, 100 Rector’s Grants were awarded. The Selection Committee evaluates all submitted applications and selects the best portfolios among the applicants. Master’s Degree Admission: Applicants must pass the Comprehensive Testing: • Scientific and Pedagogical Track: minimum of 75 points for tuition-based study, including at least 25 points in a foreign language and at least 7 points in each of the remaining sections. • Professional Track: minimum of 30 points, with at least 7 points in each section. Applications for creative educational programs are accepted from June 20 to July 7 through the University Admissions Committee. To apply for the educational programs “Design,” “Environmental and Interior Design,” “Decorative Art and Ethnodesign,” and “Directing,” applicants must submit an application within the established timeframe. Design, Environmental and Interior Design, Decorative Art and Ethnodesign Admission is based on UNT results in the following subjects: • History of Kazakhstan – 5 points • Reading Literacy – 3 points In addition, applicants must pass two creative entrance examinations conducted at TAU University: • Drawing • Technical Drawing The maximum score for each creative exam is 50 points. The minimum passing score is at least 5 points for each exam. Directing Admission is based on creative entrance examinations, including: • Written Assignment (Screenplay) – 4 hours (3 pages, one of the proposed topics); • Colloquium (oral examination) – assessment of the applicant’s general educational level, creative potential, and knowledge in the fields of cinema, television, and the arts.

          - University or student dormitories: Average cost ranges from 15,000 KZT ($30) to 50,000 KZT ($100). Rooms accommodate 2–4 students and are equipped with modern furniture and common utility facilities. Move-in begins on August 30.

          - Renting an apartment or room: Prices in the city range from 50,000 KZT ($100) to 200,000 KZT ($400), depending on the district and type of accommodation.

Dormitory living is usually significantly more affordable than renting an apartment in the city.

Food budget: Basic moderate monthly expenses for meals in the capital range from 30,000 KZT ($60) to 50,000 KZT ($100) or more, depending on lifestyle.
