The Materials Science and Engineering PhD program provides students with a fundamental and applied research-based education suitable for seeking employment in industry or academia. Materials Science and Engineering is the study of the structure?processing?properties relationships of engineering materials. Modern MSE encompasses a broad range of materials, from traditional metallurgy to biological materials, polymers, ceramics, semiconductors, composites, and optical and magnetic materials, as well as numerous nanotechnology materials. MSE graduates can be found employed in almost all fields of human endeavor. Students must have a Bachelor (Honours) consisting of four or more years of full-time study, or a Bachelor degree following a National Certificate or National Diploma. International students also have the following other English language requirements: a minimum 220 on TOEFL (computer-based).
