The MFA program in Creative Writing offers concentrations in fiction, poetry, and literary nonfiction, and features a curriculum fueled by aesthetic values and focused on students? original creative work. Our faculty members are deeply committed to cultivating a diverse community of high-quality literary writers and preparing them for careers in writing, editing, teaching, and/or other creative endeavors. Set within the growing and bustling 60,000+-student U.C.F. campus, on the eastern edge of Orlando and about equi-distant from Disney World and the Atlantic beaches, our M.F.A. program offers a balance of close community and the openness of city life. Our program?running between about 25 and 35 full- and part-time students at a time?reflects the diversity of our region. We are committed to helping students find their own distinct voices based on their various experiences and perspectives. Students have the opportunity to serve as interns for our international literary journal, The Florida Review, to assist in the production of our in-house literary journal, The Cypress Dome, as well as to work as Graduate Teaching Assistants, teaching first-year Composition and Introduction to Creative Writing. The program also offers students opportunities to participate in the national and local visiting writers program, Writers in the Sun, in community outreach projects, Parcels (a reading series for students), and the Graduate Writers Association (student organization).

Students must have a Bachelor (Honours) consisting of four or more years of full-time study, or a Bachelor degree following a National Certificate or National Diploma. International students also have the following other English language requirements: a minimum 220 on TOEFL (computer-based).
