The Executive Master of Business Laws (EMBL) Programme is designed for mid-career professionals who seek to acquire a systematic and advanced understanding of the business laws. The programme aims to equip students with solid foundational knowledge of business law principles while enabling them to develop comparative legal perspectives with newly acquired business law expertise. Through a carefully structured curriculum, the EMBL Programme enhances students’ analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills in cross-jurisdictional legal contexts. The programme places particular emphasis on areas of law that are of practical and strategic importance in contemporary legal practice, including corporate and financial law, dispute resolution, data protection, and emerging legal issues arising from technological developments. Graduates of the programme are expected to strengthen their professional competitiveness and capacity to operate effectively in both Hong Kong and other business law environments.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to the degree of Executive Master of Business Laws, a candidate:
(a) shall comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
(b) shall hold a Bachelor's degree with at least second class honours or an equivalent qualification* from this University or a recognized comparable institution;
(c) shall have at least three years of full-time work experience, preferably in a professional position broadly related to finance, business or law; and
(d) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the Faculty-specific English language requirement as follows:
(i) IELTS (Academic): Overall band of 6.5 or above; or
(ii) TOEFL (Internet-based): Overall score of 97 or above for tests taken before January 21, 2026; or overall score of 5.0 or above for tests taken on or after January 21, 2026.
IELTS and TOEFL tests must be taken within two years prior to the start of each admissions year. Scores from "IELTS One Skill Retake," "IELTS Indicator," and "TOEFL iBT Home Edition" will not be accepted.
*An equivalent qualification includes a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, degrees in other disciplines, or qualifications obtained through recognized professional examinations such as the Common Professional Examination of England and Wales or the Common Professional Examination Certificate in Laws of this University, provided that the degree or qualification meets the specified honours standard.
