The university, in conjunction with the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM), has developed a concentration endorsed by the IAVM, and its more than 4,300 members. The focus is on how to manage large public assembly facilities such as stadiums and arenas. Topics covered include specialties such as facility financing, community marketing, field maintenance, and crowd management. For students who choose to complete the master’s program with a concentration in facility management, the program includes the six sports/facility management core courses, and four of the concentration courses listed below (12 credits), including SMGT 6613 and SMGT 6622 Students who have not taken a managerial accounting course and a financial accounting course (and received at least a B or higher grade in that class) before starting the program will need to take ACCT 6620 Financial Accounting for Managers as one of their elective courses. Sports/Facility Management Core (18 credits) SMGT 6600 - Sport Business Toolkit SMGT 6610 - The Sport Industry SMGT 6611 - Sport Industry Marketing, Promotion, and Public Relations SMGT 6612 - Sports Law SMGT 6617 - Managing Sport Finances SMGT 6694 - Internship Facility Management concentration requirements (6 credits) SMGT 6613 - Sports Facility Management SMGT 6622 - Sport Facility Development/Construction Plus two of the following (6 credits) ACCT 6620 - Financial Accounting for Managers or Proof of prerequisite (see department for waiver; waiver will not count toward 12 elective credits) Any of the following courses: ENGL 6659 - Writing and Speaking for Professionals SMGT 6618 - Major Policy Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics SMGT 6620 - Professional Sport Management SMGT 6621 - Applied Collegiate Fitness and Athletics SMGT 6623 - Sport Business Development and Sustainability SMGT 6624 - Sports Economics SMGT 6625 - Sport Management by the Numbers SMGT 6626 - Strategic Event Management Or any other College of Business graduate course.
