This program is designed to provide a more direct path to a four-year baccalaureate degree for community college students with technical or applied degrees or transfer students with technical, applied, or military credits from approved institutions. By accepting many workforce, technical or military credits, the BAAS minimizes the number of transfer credit hours often lost in other types of degree programs. The major in this program, applied arts and sciences, combines an occupational specialization with interdisciplinary studies from the various disciplines within the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (PACS) and other colleges at UNT for a degree specifically oriented to the student's career goals. Graduates of the BAAS program use their degrees to break through promotional barriers in existing jobs or to change careers altogether. Alumni of the BAAS program have pursued careers in a variety of areas including business, industry and public service. One graduate combined paramedic training with courses in business, criminal justice, and emergency administration and planning to prepare for a career in public safety. Another graduate combined studies in rehabilitation with volunteer management and non-profit management to prepare for a career in non-profit organizations. The PACS Office of Student Services assists students with developing a degree plan which addresses their career objectives. This degree program can be completed online provided that student's career goals and objectives fit the concentrations currently available online. The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences consists of 120 college credit hours. The degree requires 42 hours of academic foundation courses, 66 hours in the major and 12 hours of general electives.
