The Bachelor of Music degree with Emphasis in Music Management provides a comprehensive professional music degree that combines intensive study of classical music with studies in music management, business fundamentals and general education classes. All students successfully completing the B.M. degree with Emphasis in Music Management may also qualify to earn a Minor in Business Management from the Eberhardt School of Business. Students must complete a minimum of 124 units with a Pacific cumulative and program grade point average of 2.0 in order to earn the Bachelor of Music degree with a major in music management. Analytical, Problem-Solving and Communicative Skills 1. Demonstrate ability to think, read, write and communicate effectively in a professional setting. 2. Demonstrate ability to access, analyze, evaluate, synthesize and present information using a variety of methods including computer-based media. 3. Demonstrate ability to make informed judgments and solve problems using internal evidence or external criteria involving music industry topics. Fundamental Business Theory and Practice Demonstrate basic understanding in the following areas: • Marketing • Microeconomics • Law • Organizational Behavior Demonstrate functional knowledge in: • Accounting • Statistics Basic Knowledge of Relevant Technologies 1. Demonstrate basic competency using the current range of professional office management computer software. 2. Develop basic knowledge of current developments in music and entertainment-based technology, especially as they relate to the creation, promotion and distribution of intellectual property. Music Industry Knowledge 1. Demonstrate understanding of the overall functions and structures of the current music industry including copyright law, publishing, contracts, and licensing; identify general aspects of the various niches within the industry. 2. Distinguish/describe the structure and operations within the student’s industry area of interest. 3. Identify and analyze major trends and events in the history of the music industry. Self-Awareness, Interpersonal, Ethical and Career Development Skills 1. Develop awareness of and a sense of the importance of ethical decision-making in music and entertainment industry relationships and businesses. 2. Demonstrate a clear and reasoned approach to the student’s own career and personal objectives tempered by the current climate within the music industry. 3. Demonstrate the ability to work with equal impact, independently or as a member of a team.
