This is a two-year degree that allows students to gain the necessary proficiency in Greek and Latin to proceed to a Ph.D. It is designed to provide core skills in philology, and to be flexible enough to allow for specialization in Ancient History, Literature, or Philosophy. The department offers students a unique opportunity to take advanced seminars in Greek and Latin as well as opportunities to research and learn about the material culture, religious beliefs, languages and histories of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. We are a small but engaged department and are able to provide students with programs tailored to individual interests. Students will have frequent interaction with faculty and the academic community.
