Zoology is the study of animals, their behaviour, their physiology and evolution, as well as their interactions with each other and with their environment. Zoologists also study how animals evolved and the impact of environmental change on their survival. They search for ways to manage wildlife populations and to conserve rare and endangered species, such as takahe, frogs and tuatara. They study costs and benefits of conservation and ways to enhance species survival.

  1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences).
  2. Every applicant must have been awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science majoring in the subject or subjects of study proposed with an average grade of at least B, or have an alternative qualification acceptable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences).
  3. An applicant seeking admission to the thesis-only option of the programme (see regulation 2(c) below) must have been awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours or the Postgraduate Diploma in Science, including research report, thesis preparation, or dissertation with an average grade of at least B+.
