The degree course in Mountain Sciences (SM, class L-25), unique in Italy with this denomination, trains a graduate with professional skills in the analysis, design and management of mountain areas and their resources, with particular reference to the Apennine reality. and Mediterranean. To this end, it extends the university training of the traditional graduate in Agricultural and Forestry Sciences by including economic enhancement and tourism promotion of the mountain environment. In particular, the study plan aims to prepare a technician with an articulated preparation in the forestry, agricultural, environmental and economic sectors through a training course aimed at encouraging entrepreneurial growth in mountain areas. 
In fact, students acquire, first of all, an adequate knowledge of basic subjects, such as chemistry and biology, whose teaching, in addition to developing the correct scientific approach to problem solving, also contemplates the applicative aspects of the disciplines. The characterizing teachings concern, first of all, the contents of the forestry and agricultural disciplines, for the conservation of biodiversity and the production, collection and enhancement of mountain products. Then, the multidisciplinary sector of agroforestry engineering that provides the tools necessary for the development of projects and works for the protection of the soil and sources, for the prevention and containment of the degradation processes of the territory and for the arrangement of the slopes and river banks.
Mountain Sciences is a professionalizing course characterized by a practical-applicative approach suitable for allowing graduates to quickly enter the world of work. At the same time, it allows the student to acquire a solid foundation for the continuation of studies in the master's and master's degree courses.
The training is also completed by periods of education in the Alpine and Apennine environment, internships and internships in companies and enterprises and by student mobility programs abroad ( ERASMUS).
