The Higher Institute of Archaeology was founded in 1992 by a group of Palestinian academics under the name Higher Institute of Islamic Archaeology, with its headquarters located at the Dar al-Tifl Foundation in Jerusalem. The Institute was the first local academic institution to offer a Master's degree in Archaeology, aiming to graduate highly qualified professionals to meet the needs of Palestinian society, which is rich in cultural and natural heritage. In 1996, the Institute was integrated into the programs of Al-Quds University, and its headquarters were relocated to the university campus in Al-Bireh. The program was last revised approximately eight years ago. The proposed revision reflects the national philosophy and policy of developing scientifically and practically qualified personnel who are up-to-date with the latest developments in archaeology and possess a high level of competence and responsibility.

Postgraduate programs in archaeology: The Higher Institute of Archaeology offers three postgraduate programs:

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the Master of Archaeology program (thesis and comprehensive exam track) must have a Bachelor’s degree with a good grade (70%) or higher, and an acceptable Higher Diploma track (65%) or higher, in the field of archaeology, or one of the related disciplines such as history, geography, arts, and engineering.
