The department underwent a complete restructuring at the beginning of 2021 across all levels: academic plans, staff, admission requirements, logistical arrangements, and departmental vision. The program was developed in collaboration with four international universities and took three years to complete. During this period, the program studied the Palestinian society's strong shift towards digitalization, as well as the emerging job opportunities in data analytics, interactive media, interaction design programming, and digital storytelling. This program aims to break the decades-long stereotype of media studies in Palestinian universities in several ways: it targets high school graduates in the science and technology tracks, not just the humanities, as has been the norm. It integrates technology and the humanities, combining the core principles of journalism with programming techniques and advanced interactive content creation and discourse, based on the career and societal trends of the next seven years.
  • The program targets exceptional students with suitable personalities and intellects who meet the program's admission criteria. The core of this specialization is the acquisition of advanced applied technology, critical thinking, scientific research, and the promotion of critical journalistic writing and a culture of inquiry.
  • The program includes a mandatory 120-hour practical training track supervised by trainers, experts, and external and national institutions. Upon graduation, students are ready to enter the workforce and make a difference in the workplace without needing to participate in further training courses.
  • The new major consists of only 120 academic hours, allowing students to complete the program in three years. Most courses are held at the Ramallah campus. The major includes three sub-specializations from which students choose one: (1) Interactive Media, (2) Public Relations and Digital Media, and (3) Audiovisual Media. The Interactive Media sub-specialization will be offered first, followed by the other sub-specializations.
  • The program takes upon itself the goal of zero unemployment for program graduates.
  • The Martyr Shireen Abu Akleh Scholarship has been launched for students of this program – a 100% full scholarship for outstanding students.

Admission Requirements

  1. Passing the Tawjihi exam or its equivalent with a grade of 70% is required, with the exception of the diploma bridging program.
  2. Pass the Introduction to Digital Communication course with a grade of at least 70%.
  3. He passed the Arabic language exam for the department with a score of 70%.
  4. Good level of English.
  5. Successfully passed the personal interview.
  6. Acceptance for the minor specialization is subject to a personal interview, and the department may request remedial courses as needed, provided that they do not exceed 6 academic hours.
The mandatory training track addresses the needs of most media graduates with bachelor's degrees. These graduates often seek to acquire specialized knowledge at the cognitive, technical, and digital levels, at considerable expense, to enhance their employment prospects. The average time it takes graduates to find employment is at least a year due to their lack of practical experience, technological gaps, and limited ability to adapt to the latest developments in media work. This program takes this into account and prioritizes it. It includes a 240-hour practical training track within media organizations and the implementation of applied digital projects in startups for various entities and institutions before graduation. This prepares graduates for early entry into the job market and allows them to develop their own businesses.
