The Translation Studies educational programme is internationally accredited by ACQUIN (The Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute, Germany) for 8 years (04 March 2024 – 30 September 2032) and from IAAR (Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating) for 5 years (28 April 2023 – 27 April 2028), confirming full compliance with international academic standards. The program Philology has passed international accreditation by IQAA (Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education) for 5 years (29 Мау 2024-29 Мау 2029)
The program is annually included in national rankings of Kazakhstani universities and the IQAA Ranking entering the Top 10 best educational programmes in 2024, achieving a leading position such as 3rd place in 2023 among universities. The university has demonstrated consistent improvement in the general institutional ranking and in the educational programme ranking conducted by the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken”, improving its position by 8 places in 2023 and 15 places in 2024 among 34 universities. The programme was included in the ranking of educational programmes by level and directions in preparing specialists by IAAR (Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating) entering the Top 10 best educational programmes in 2024, achieving a leading 5th position among universities in 2023 and 4th position in 2022.
The uniqueness of these educational programmes defined by its ability to provide flexible and dynamic training of highly qualified professionals who meet current labour market demands. Graduates of the programme contribute to the innovative development and modernization of the translation sector through the development of research skills and project-based activities focused on the practical application of modern methodologies and technologies in various fields of translation practice.
This is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary program aimed at in-depth mastery of both theoretical and applied aspects of language and literature. The key feature of the program is its integrated approach to linguistic phenomena from linguistic, cultural, social, and communicative perspectives.
The programme content and titles reflect the specific regional demand for highly qualified specialists. Its uniqueness is further strengthened by the university’s strong academic staff capacity, enabling the delivery of innovative courses through the application of advanced information technologies in translation studies and the socio-cultural sphere. This approach ensures the training of highly qualified translation professionals equipped with practical skills in foreign languages, principles of their functioning across diverse communicative contexts, and the cultural and technical foundations of various types of written and oral translation.
Mission: To train highly qualified professionals in the field of translation studies with strong fundamental knowledge, practical skills and competencies, innovative approaches, and research skills.
Purpose: To prepare highly qualified specialists in the field of translation studies who possess practical proficiency in the system of the studied foreign languages and an understanding of their functioning across various spheres of verbal communication, as well as knowledge of the cultural foundations and techniques of different types of written and oral translation (first and second languages). Graduates possess comprehensive professional competencies that meet modern requirements and are prepared to work in scientific and humanitarian fields, research institutions, publishing houses, and mass media organizations.
Graduates of the Bachelor’s of these educational programmes are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Linguistics . Holders of the Bachelor of Linguistics qualification may carry out the following professional roles: translator-referent, translation editor, translator-guide, written translator, and interpreter, newspaper and magazine editorial offices, researchers, government bodies, editor and proofreaders, etc.
Bachelors in Translation Studies are prepared for professional activity in the following fields: administrative and managerial sectors; education and research; culture and intercultural communication; international relations; publishing; media; and other related areas .
The objects of graduates’ professional activity include cultural institutions, international organizations, information and analytical services, embassies and representative offices, ministries, publishing houses, and other organizations and enterprises.
The programme is delivered in modern campuses with a comfortable learning environment. The university has two academic buildings, a scientific library with a collection of over thousands of modern books, lecture halls, a computer lab with more than 500 computers, a gym, a choreography hall, a sports hall equipped with a futsal field, two medical centers, and a student dormitory. There are also teaching and research laboratories and creative workshops equipped with modern technology. In addition, the university houses a “Simultaneous Interpretation Laboratory”, a specialized facility in linguistics, education, and technology designed for the professional training and practical development of simultaneous interpreters, enabling them to render oral translation in real time using specialized equipment (interpretation booths, consoles, and headphones) for high-level events such as conferences and international summits. Linguistic Laboratory is equipped for linguistic data analysis, text structure research, comparative linguistics, discourse studies, and pragmatics investigations. Creative Writing and Public Speaking Workshop is dedicated to developing academic writing, essay composition, scientific articles, journalistic texts, and oral presentation skills. Text Studies and Literary Analysis Laboratory is designed for the analysis and interpretation of literary, journalistic, and academic texts, as well as for the study of literary trends, genres, and stylistic features.
Turan-Astana University is an institution with extensive international partnerships. It collaborates with universities in the United Kingdom, Spain, China, the UAE, Mongolia, Germany, Turkey, Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Belarus, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan. The university is also a partner of international organizations. In 2025, it launched the Huawei ICT Academy and the CISCO Networking Academy laboratories. Additionally, students and faculty have been active users of the Coursera educational platform since 2023.

Admission Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (after secondary school): Unified National Testing (UNT) Certificate with a minimum score of 55 points for all educational programs. Bachelor’s Degree (after college): • For state-funded (grant) programs: UNT Certificate with a minimum score of 25 points. • For tuition-based programs: passing an entrance examination. Bachelor’s Degree (second higher education): • Passing an entrance examination.
IELTS: 6.0 or higher — exempts from the English exam and is equivalent to 45 points in the UNT. Deadline: July 20.
SAT, ACT, IB: for participation in the grant competition. Applications must be submitted by July 5.
