A major in Communication Studies offers a broad-based understanding of the processes of human communication and the importance of these communication processes in our society. Beginning with the theory and principles of communication, the program strengthens students' skills in communicating both within and across cultural boundaries. Over the course of your time here, you'll come to understand the "how" and the "why" of messages and their influence on behavior, and how communication can reflect underlying values of society. You'll examine informative and persuasive communications and verbal and nonverbal messages. The coursework for this major allows students to look at communication in a wide range of contexts such as governments, courtrooms, social movements, journalism, cultures and social movements. As a result, students are prepared to take their knowledge into any professional endeavor.
