Baylor University's Bioinformatics undergraduate program was one of the first of its kind when it was created. The Bioinformatics major is a combination of computer science, life sciences, mathematics and statistics. The program is essentially a double major in biology and computer science with a minor in chemistry. Available courses include: Genomics and Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Computer Architecture, Engineering Economics Analysis. Because of the broad-reaching nature of the program, students majoring in this area can expect any number of career opportunities after completing the degree, including database design, library science, data warehousing, forensics, anthropology and agriculture. Students also commonly continue their education in medicine, pharmacological studies and computer science. The Engineering program offers a unique study abroad opportunity, the i5 Program (Immersion Into International Interdisciplinary Innovation). The program is designed to help students develop science and technology insight, business savvy and global cultural competence through real-world business, engineering and computer science experiences. Students spend five weeks in China and earn six credit hours.
