Graduates of this major go on to: attend graduate programs, work in the medical field. Clinical laboratory scientists are an important part of a healthcare team, working with physicians to provide quality patient care. These healthcare professionals perform clinical laboratory tests that help physicians prevent, detect, and treat disease. It has been estimated that 70% of medical decisions regarding a patient's diagnosis and treatment are based on these laboratory test results. The majority of clinical laboratory scientists are employed by hospital or clinic laboratories, but there are other diverse opportunities including research, industry, sales, public health, veterinary clinics, education, laboratory management, and self-employed consultants. The Clinical Laboratory Science major is a unique program in which students complete their first three years of coursework at the Baylor University campus, and then their fourth year is spent in a 12 month clinical training program at one of our affiliated institutions. Currently, our affiliated institutions are Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas; Baylor Scott & White Hospital, in Temple, Texas; and Tartleton State University in Fort Worth, Texas. Upon successful completion of this course of study, the degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science will be conferred. Additionally, students will qualify for the examination and certification by the Board of Certification of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.Read less
